Good on you man, Im exactly the same 10/10 I turn up to a social event I forced myself to attend, have a great time and have a laugh Its useful to build yourself up for the evnt (eg. imagine yourself having a good time, dress well, smile when you arrive so you look approachable) A big tip I follow is be the instigator, be the one to introduce yourself and start conversations - it just makes me feel more in control of the situation - for instance I stutter on my name so when I feel able to say it I'll loudly and clearly introduce by saying "Diggingme's my name, nice to meet you" - tat way I've got that obstacle out of my way early on and can just move on In regards to talking follow a 5 second rule 1. Think of a good topic (ideally one your passionate about) 2.Quickly configure the words to say it 3. Deep breath 4. Talk 5. If you feel your stutter coming on - slow down in your speech either elongate your last word then take a deep breath to continue - or just stutter (I'd say "um") take a deep breath then continue This is all a quick process, its to stop yourself from becoming anxious thus not speaking at all At social events I also find it best to speak to another person that's by themself, they'll be just as anxious as you and just happy to make a friend ( it sounds soft but you know what I mean) It's no good hiding at home seize life by the balls! Carpe Diem and all that jazz
