Thank you for this post. I’ve been prescribed benzodiazepines as well, and yes, my stuttering reduced. Eventually, I acclimated to that dose and it didn’t have a positive affect on my speech anymore…unless I took more. Rinse and repeat. I quickly realized that I do NOT want to be on this shit anymore (because it’ll never be enough and it’ll lead to abuse) and started tapering off the medication slowly. I’m on my 8th month of tapering off the benzos. It is absolute Hell on Earth, and trust me, I’m a glutton for pain, but this is overwhelming. Withdrawal from this medication is incredibly difficult. It is intense and prolonged. But I feel so much better coming off this medication now. The stutter will always be a part of me and I can’t make it magically go away. I’d rather cope with it naturally than with meds that might kill me. I’ve accepted it. I’ll be okay. If you’re reading this, unless it’s a medical necessity, PLEASE stay away from benzos, prescribed or not. You’ll always need more, and you’ll never have enough.
