Initially they were uncomfortable for me, but I started getting used to them, and would start picking quiet places that wouldn’t be overwhelming for me. I typically would go to somewhere to get tea. Picking the environment was helpful, as I started developing a routine of sorts of, where every date was somewhat similar, so it became more comfortable than a random social interaction where I don’t have as much control. I started to like how simple the structure is, where you’re not competing with other people in a group scenario to speak. The format lends itself to taking your time in responding, IMO.
