This takes me to the post couple of days back here about seeking therapy (not speech therapy), which I agree with. What you have explained is largely true but its not easy for an individual on their own to understand the reasons behind their thoughts and their consciousness and then change it for good. This is where a good a therapist will help one find the root cause behind their emotion and thought process, and advise them how to fine tune it.
