Yeah that happens to me too. I don't always take it to heart especially as I'm getting older. But it's still insulting that a handicap that gives us so much immense pain & depression, even drives some to suicide is something ppl laugh at like a joke. Almost like the pain & misfortune of living this fucked up life is funny to people. I understand most people aren't educated about it. But still they wouldn't laugh at a guy in a wheel chair or with down syndrome, but they'll embarrass a stutterer no problem & fuck up his psyche even more. Idk man it seems very wrong to me. But there's nothing we can do about it I guess. I do agree that if somebody doesn't already know you have a actual impediment then they're more likely to joke about it.
