How to overcome this block So I got a job at a vaccine clinic. There are 2 positions at this clinic, check in and check out. When checking in patients, I have to ask and confirm their information, which is not a problem for me, I’m very fluent but at the end, we have to ask for consent which I dread. Simply, I have to ask them to (1) consent to data collection, (2) consent for follow up via email / text and (3) consent to be reached out for future vaccine research. I always stumble on 1 and 3. It’s so embarrassing, I tense up, my eyes close and I bit my tongue. My last shift was yesterday and I woke up with a sore throat (like my vocal cords are sore) and a sore tongue. I really don’t want this to hinder me. I used to go to speech therapy but my parents don’t have insurance and I’m a low income student so when I get paid, i plan on doing therapy 2x a month ($150 each session). I try using the techniques like soft touch but when I actually have to check them in, I’m soo nervous and anxious that it goes out of my head. I try to remember that I’ll never see these people again to reduce the feeling of embarrassment but it doesn’t work for me. What do you recommend?
