Phones really are the worst thing as there's no visual cues to tell the other person that you're trying to speak if they just hang on a second. The pressure to say something on answering tends to make my stutter worse too! On the rare occasions I *do* talk on the phone, I pepper my sentences with "uh" just to let them know I'm still there and still talking. Probably makes me sound like an airhead. I've thought about maybe recording myself saying "Hello! Just to let you know, I've got a stutter and might need some extra time to communicate." on a dictaphone, then playing that back when I pick up a call. I've never actually put that into practice yet but that might be an idea if you're looking for unsolicited advice!
