It’s a common assignment and it gives you a tiny taste. I’m the mom of a PWS and I’ve done it with the full blessing and utter delight of my son. He was about 6 and he loved every second of it. He couldn’t contain his laughter at me or the people’s reactions, which made it so much more awkward because people thought my son was laughing at my stutter. The looks, the awkwardness, people finishing your sentences. It’s important to experience. How it’s so easy for a fluent person to dispense advice but for a PWS it’s hard and it’s their life. I do have to say the stuttering community has pushed me to be more authentic and to not care about others’ opinions. I hope the assignment is meaningful and I hope you do it a few times. Go to an NSA event. Meet people in the community. There’s a lot of strength here.
