Developmental Stutter Have slight history of stuttering and a relative had one at a young age. I had a TBI in 2017 at the age of 13 and started uncontrollably stuttering. Been in and out of speech therapy the last 5 years and it’s been paying off. I’ve learned to disclose my speech impediment to new people and boost my confidence to speak; in other words eliminating the psychological aspect that hinders fluency. It still comes in waves but having a subconscious, muscle memory like ability to implement preventative techniques to increase fluency have been working. It’s gotten good enough that I conducted myself very well when I was pulled over earlier tonight. It took time but things kind of clicked in the recovery process. Took me more than a year to accept what I have to live with for the rest of my life. I learned to take risks that increased my tolerance level of comfort in social situations and I almost don’t even think twice about my stutter before I speak.
