I was lucky enough to get training for my stutter as a kid from a research group at the Oxford University. One of my tutors saying to me “you need to believe you don’t have a stutter” and that’s stayed with me. My diagnosis (if I remember correctly) was that my stutter is triggered from stress, anxiety and depression, so it’s mood triggered for me rather than a form of tic. I’m 28 now and work in retail for Burberry in central London where I’m talking all day everyday to very high end clients. I do struggle with it sometimes but I find taking a deep breath and just resetting myself always does it.
