Firstly, I hate the word 'Intervention' don't ever make the children feel like they have something 'wrong' with them. That will only compound things, I know from personal experience as a child going to SLP. Remember that techniques help some people, but not all. Not all stutterers are the same. For most of us, the battle is within our head. Not a battle to speak fluently. It's impossible to explain, but important to understand. Personally I hate watching any media about stuttering, I have avoided watching that film like the plague because I know it will upset me. I am just saying, maybe for you it would seem like a nice film to watch, but for us it would be torture. I think any kind of thing where you have to present in front of people should be made optional, don't force them to do it. These kind of things can be extremely stressful for kids with a stutter. I took a week off school to avoid a presentation once. I would focus on, how to deal with stuttering and how to stay positive. More so than 'fixing' the stutter. I am of the opinion, that no stutter can every truly be 'fixed', but self confidence goes a long way to improve fluency. I hope this helped, I don't want to seem negative... but I have found that many SLP's just don't understand the mental aspect of stuttering. They view it as a purely physical 'problem' which couldn't be further from the truth.
