Yea, I speak Japanese at a basic level and I stutter more in Japanese. I think it’s a mixture of performance anxiety and also the stress that comes with formulating sentences in an unfamiliar language. In our native language we tend to not second-guess ourselves as much as in a second language. I think the key is confidence and believing that what we say in the second language will be enough for the other person to understand us.
