TLDR - Yes. It's very common for stutterers to have difficulty saying their name. My name is one syllable and I usually have trouble saying it when meeting someone for the first time. I think a lot of it has to do with conditioning as well as stuttering. At some point in our lives we have that first embarrassing moment where we get stuck on our name. And if the people around you are young and stupid, somebody might make a shitty comment that makes you feel even worse. I'm sure most of us have been asked, "Did you forget your name?" And maybe someone else thought it was funny and laughed. Regardless of how it happens, meeting someone for the first time and getting stuck on your name is, more than likely, somewhat traumatizing. And trauma is what lays the groundwork for longterm feelings of apprehension when similar situations occur in the future. And so the next time we have to introduce ourselves, those familiar feelings start to creep in. And if we stutter, those feelings are validated. And so the cycle continues.
