Personally, I want to be and be treated exactly like someone who doesn't stutter. I understand where you're coming from and why you would say you're proud of him but, as a stutterer, I can see how it could come across condescending despite your intentions. It depends hugely on him and also the severity of his stutter though. He is the best one to talk to.
