I think there’s a few reasons for this. Stuttering I think is largely an identity conflict. We are not sure who to be and what our responsibility is based off who we are. Our name is like a container for everything we believe we are and everything we believe we can become. It’s basically our ego. So if someone keeps holding back their expression, is afraid of who they are an their potential, then saying their own name is gunna illicit discomfort and disassociation. For people that stutter, our defense is to block to block out these feelings. So to conclude, I think the reason we stutter on our name is that our name is the quickest way to remind us of all the things we are afraid of, and also our responsibility to realize our own potential, which people that stutter tend to be uncomfortable to do.
