I think at around age 17 I just completely stopped responding to people who acknowledged my stutter. If my dad asked me a question I’d just say “sorry I’m stuck on a word” he’d say “which one” and I’d say “all of them”. After a while I could get thru an entire meal with just thumbs up and head nods. I got so tired of everyone “teaching” me how to speak properly I just stopped all together. Not best advice but that’s how I dealt and I talk to my boss and new Friends stutter free now because That’s not what defines me to them.
