I need help ASAP. I (F29) have a mild stutter and have been able to get and do customer service jobs in the past.( receptionist, cabin crew). Got a receptionist job in a good company last week and been training. I usually handle face to face great and barely stutter. It’s worth mentioning these are not very long interactions so I do well. Boss mentioned to me yesterday that he noticed I have a stutter. He thought I was just nervous in the interview. He said I asked some staff and they confirmed. He also started explaining it to me as if I’m just finding out what stuttering is( gave me Joe Biden example) I have to admit he was understanding and speaking in a nice tone. He said smth about maybe check if there is another position where you don’t have to be communicating so much on phone etc in the company. He didn’t specify anything. He also said no beed to nervous around me. Now this all sounds ok and great to someone who doesn’t stutter but It shattered me. Felt pathetic and as if he’s just doing me a favor by not firing me. I don’t wanna work somewhere where I have to be aware and careful 24/7 and just make sure I don’t stutter cause it will just exasperate it. Today I showed up to work and I want to tell him I’m not a disabled person and have never messed up an interaction since I joined. Quite the opposite people like me and compliment me for my behavior and service. How do i use this to get an other position without him thinking I don’t deserve it or he has buyer’s remorse? I’m sorry if this too long I was destroyed when he mentioned it I don’t know why and was thinking to quit. Thank you
