The rule of thumb is that they will only make fun of it for a long time of they are total assholes. Most people are only curious. You are probably going to have to answer to a lot of stupid questions, but once you do i doubt you are gonna encounter any problems. And once you make friends, real ones, they are gonna ignore it.
