Hey! 27 year old stutterer here. I know exactly how you feel because I felt a similar way going to college. I was comfortable around my friends so my stuttering wasn’t really prominent around them, but I went to university away from home. What was worse is that I was a French major which involved a LOT of talking. It took me a while to get used to it but I eventually found my groove and it got better for me. I definitely had some days where speaking was a major chore for me (I had the luxury to lean on the fact that I was speaking a foreign language which is difficult for a lot of people anyways). My suggestion for you is to see if your university has any speech therapists there. Usually there are speech pathologist majors who offer speech therapy for free and it’s an amazing resource to have. Also another tip that I learned is that confidence is never handed to you. Someone I met at a job years ago exuded confidence and it seemed so bizarre to me because I never really understood why. Finally I asked and he just told me that he fakes his confidence to the point where he believed it. Fake it till you make it. It’s easier said than done but after hearing that my life has changed so much. Dress confidently, carry yourself in a way that’s confident. If someone doesn’t like that you stutter they shouldn’t be in your radar anyways.
