Do you live in Belgium or the Netherlands? I'm a native English speaker as well and live in Belgium. Indeed it's hard to immerse yourself in the language when almost everyone speaks English. It's even worse when you try to practice your Dutch in a shop and the person hears you're English and responds in English. They do it out of politeness, but it just makes me think my Dutch must be awful haha.
