I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree with this. While I don’t doubt that emotions and the “psyche” can have an effect on stuttering, it’s far from the root cause. Like another commenter said, and even though doctors haven’t identified the exact cause of stuttering, it’s widely accepted as a neurological difference. Most of what that psychologist said seems a bit too anecdotal and ultimately subjective to hold any water as “the real cause of stuttering”. As for the childhood stuff, I partly agree because it’s been shown that environmental factors in childhood can impact stuttering, but (and I fully realize I’m kinda contradicting myself here with the anecdotal evidence) I had a great childhood despite my stutter. Obviously I faced some bullying due to it, but who doesn’t? My mom’s a speech path so I was in speech early but it ultimately didn’t work because I still stutter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy that this approach is working for you! I just wouldn’t go around saying that this is “the real cause of stuttering”.
