I’m 19 also. I’ve gone to two . One was a regular speech therapist and one was a therapy institute that is now shut down because of lack of money . It was called HCRI and they specialized in stutters . While they did give techniques like breath control , stretching your syllables , inflections of your voice … I don’t really use that today . For me and many others it made us sound robotic or unlike ourselves . I would say you should go and try it out for yourself! From my experience I feel like no matter how many times I go , stuttering is just too unpredictable. The best they can give you is techniques but it’ll never be cure . I’ve had months where my speech wasn’t as bad but randomly it gets bad . Usually I stutter when I’m emotional or sleepy . I can get sleep and be calm and stutter . For me my environment is also a big factor. Unless a therapist stutters , they won’t get it . I loved my therapists but they couldn’t relate to me . So when it came down to me trying their techniques and still stuttering it was so annoying . Some people have a stutter early on and then it disappears . For me I was born with this so it’s not something that’s easily managed . I think you can give it a shot and see if it works! If it doesn’t work , you tried , and that’s okay , sometimes we know how to manage our stutter better than someone else and we end up finding things that help ourselves!
