I want to know, how do you tell another stutterer that you also stutter irl? I always have this fear in the back of my mind that if I say I also stutter, the other might not believe me. Because I have met people trying to sympathize with me saying “I stutter when I’m nervous too” and that doesn’t help at all. I also afraid that if we didn’t know each other stutters, we might get mad thinking the other is making fun by mimicking. I had a professor who stutters, sometimes he had to dismiss class early because he just couldn’t go on anymore. He is the first and, so far, only stutterer I know irl, despite his condition he put himself out there in front of a classroom of people to teach, he really became my inspiration and encouragement. I went to his office hour every week to talk to him, but I was really careful, I talked really slowly and barely messed up my speech, also because I’m a foreigner, I can pass as not speaking English perfectly. I never got to tell him how much he inspires me and makes me feel that I’m not alone, I really regret it because of this fear and not knowing how to tell him.
