Yes so true! I think like another commenter said it’s their way of showing their not “affected” by your stuttering and aren’t going to closely observe you while you do it. I notice I don’t make eye contact with them more though honestly. I purposely squint my eyes, pretend I’m thinking, or look over their shoulder to take the intimidation factor out of the conversation. I think that stems from my dad needing to yell at us and have direct eye contact though. It makes my stutter better if I just look away.
