I hate small talk but I found the best way to deal with it while talking to a minimum is to constantly ask the other person questions. I found that a lot of people love taking about themselves so I just try and make it seem like I'm very interested in what they have to say. Eventually if it goes on too long, I can tell them I got to leave/do something and they won't be offended or anything because they've been talking the entire time. This is my experience and how I deal with small talk, I don't expect this to work with everyone
