I know it's anecdotal, but I'm just comparing my experience with those of my dad and male cousin. We all have a similar degree of stutter, and I can easily tell that their social lives have been harder than mine. I agree that it can depend on the environment and how the person manages to cope with it, though have never faced any bullying or had other really bad experiences, and I think the fact that I am a female has contributed a lot to that. Stuttering is often seen as a weakness, and weakness is a feminine trait.
