Wanted to share my positive success with everyone here! Speaking from my own experiences here, stuttering can be something really isolating. It makes me hesitant to talk to new people, hesitant to place orders face to face and I generally feel anxious about how I’m perceived when I talk to people. However I had a challenge today that helped me grow and become more confident with my stuttering. I have a teacher who knows I stutter and so it’s hard for me to contribute in class. So I go to discuss with him after class to get the participation points. He’s a bit intimidating, so it’s harder for me to always slow my rate of speech to be more fluent. We typically talk in his office, which makes me more comfortable. Today, he needed to grab food and wanted me to walk and talk with him. That worried me, but I had to roll with it. When I’m siting in a quiet place, there’s less distractions that throw me off my speech. I was able to still make my points as we walked, placed my order face to face and then continued to talk with him for a bit in the crowded and loud cafe. It’s so easy to say we are defined by our failures when we stutter, but please keep in mind every victory no matter how small is a huge win. Placing an order without needing to repeat it, making a funny joke or anything like that. Tl;dr I was able to become more comfortable with my speech in challenging settings that make it harder to talk and focus
