Gave a speech as best man at my best friends wedding. Stutter free. Just found this sub and needed to post this story to help anybody out in here. So I'm life long stutterer and have zero shame about it. I am who i am, like it or gtfo. Im also often complimented by a lot of my peers for being funny and outspoken. You can see the irony in that, right? So my best friend got married Saturday and as best man i had to give a speech. I had a 5min long plenty rehearsed speech avoiding all words and sounds i often struggle with...and i left it at home 70 miles away... so what do i do? I fucking winged the whole damn thing. And i did it, no shit, 100% fluently. I literally just started word vomiting things that sounded heartfelt and cracked some quick jokes. The best was "sorry if i repeat myself... only like 12 of you in the audience will get that joke..." I couldn't tell you how proud I was of that. Entire speech was probably 7min long. Not one hiccup. I dont remember a damn word i said but people complimented me after so i must've said something right. Moral of the story, dont let stuttering stop you. Collect yourself and just fucking do it. Especially if its a room of people who dont know you!
