I started stuttering at about 5, still not too sure what caused it. My dad sent me to speech therapy and a hypnotist even. She sounds like her stutter is very similar to mine, frequent blocks and a hint of ADHD possibly. I personally developed odd facial ticks for lack of a better word when I blocked but I've mostly got that under control now. My main problem now is whenever I'm asked to repeat myself... For some reason when I have to say the same thing over again my brain basically doesn't let me use the same words, which is incredibly frustrating but it has made me a very quick thinker at least. Every stutter is different, so it's important to look out for her own personal coping mechanisms look like. I myself pretend to forget words that I can feel I'm going to have a block on until I can come up with a synonym. Throughout school speeches and the like we're really rough, I'd tense up, shake and sweat... When I left highschool I started working at a customer facing job at a market and kinda did my own personal exposure therapy. I went on to become head of a call center and now speak on open radio to upwards of 100 people on a coal mine. It may be a long road but with practice and support she'll do wonders! My therapist (from what I remember, I'm 30 now) had the opinion that my brain was too fast for my mouth, so in effect I would be thinking of the next sentence or two before even finishing the first, leading to a block. It's a fairly basic explanation of what is happening and I kind of agree with it. There's a book that actually helped me out quite a bit in my 20s called Beyond Stuttering: The McGuire Programme for Getting Good at the Sport of Speaking. It deals mostly with breathing techniques that might help her. I'd honestly say the most important thing you can do is not blame yourself. My dad did and I could almost sense the disappointment in him when I would stutter. Like he failed, and that was pretty damaging. You're asking the right questions and from the sounds of it you're doing great! (Sorry for the long post, also on mobile)
