can stuttering be connected with brain damages or retardation?

can stuttering be connected with brain damages or retardation? I have been stuttering since early childhood, right when I learned how to speak. Also I always had problems with math, other subjects that require the logic and good memory, concentration, struggled with study in general and no matter how much I tried and how often I studied everything was crossed out by another loss of memory and some kind of stupidity I guess. And in daily life this lack of concetration and sudden losses of memory interferes with being realized in life whatever it is: work, education, socialization. Does anybody have something like this? it often seems to me that my stuttering is completely consistent with the state of my mind. Sometimes I think maybe stuttering is a side effect of something else that happens to the brain? What do you think?
