A small tip for saying that first word on a phone call Hey everyone! So I'm currently 21yo and I've been a stutter from as long as I can remember. Luckily I've never been made fun of by anyone, including my family and friends. I've been following this sub for 2 months now and have read plenty of posts. One of the most common problem was saying "hello" on the phone. Which had even lead to making a phone call as a last resort for communication. I used to be fluent while saying "Hello" when I used to answer my phone, but from past year, I really had a hard time saying it. I would just pick up the call and stay silent, trying to take it out of my mouth, it just won't. And the person on the other side had said "Hello" five times already. A while ago, I read someone's advice to say "ello" instead of "hello", i tried that but that didn't help at all. The stutter was still same as saying "hello" as the sound is nearly same. So a couple of days ago I came up with another way to sort this out. Just say "llo" removing the "he" part. I know as of now it does sound weird. But just give it a try by saying it right now. It does look weird written but as you say it, it still makes same sound as "hello" and just seems a little faster paced "hello". Once you're on the phone, the person on the other side doesn't even notice you saying "llo" instead of "hello". As I am following this, as soon as I pick up the call, I just go ahead and fluently say "llo". I don't get anxious on getting a call anymore. And this has resulted in decreasing further stammer on phone call as well. Sometimes I even get away without stutter as well during short duration calls. I thought of sharing this with y'all and hoping that this will reduce the anxiousness while answering the phone call as I know we stutters try to ignore phone calls as much as possible. For the first few times it was difficult for me as I've always said "hello" and it was hard to change it to just "llo" but now I can start a conversation fluently on a call. So, go ahead and give it a try yourself to see if it works or not.
