I'm sorry that's happened to you. It's not right. If it helps, I have found it best approach to laugh at my stutter when I find it funny. And, not laugh when I'm frustrated by my stutter. I've found that people pick up on that and when I'm feeling okay about laughing at myself- people are laughing with me and not at me. I have palilalia and the other day I arrived at Kmart to pick up a "click click click click click click click and collect order." I found that my involuntarily repetition of the word "click" funny, so I chuckled. The customer service rep was a little taken aback and I said "it's okay, I have to laugh at my stutter sometimes." She laughed and I could tell that put her at ease. Alternatively, I have had times where I can't get through a word without attempting it 3 or 4 times. That's frustrating. But if I'm not laughing, I make it clear that it's not okay to laugh. Or prompt me, or guess the word I'm going to say. I'll get there when I get there.
