Finally finding control over my speech Hey everybody ! I have been in this subreddit for a while and I just wanted to share an experience I’ve had . I had the opportunity to go to Ireland and attend a McGuire program course . I was very skeptical before I went that a three day course would give me control over the very thing that has tormented me for 25 years . I’m happy to say it works ! I’ve been off the course for about 3 weeks and the support and follow up from the program is absolutely amazing . I have met so many amazing people from all over the world and for the first time in my life , no longer fear speaking . I still have a lot of work to do but if you’ve ever been considering doing the McGuire program , do it ! You will not regret it . An example that I’m sure many people on here have experienced is blocking on your name . Since I was a child , I would be terrified every time I had to introduce myself . Sitting in a circle going around and introducing myself was my worst nightmare . I would often have to add an it’s or um or some sort of filler word in front of my name . That’s no more , I can get my name out every time and frankly it still gets me emotional that I’m finally able to say what I want to say when I want to say it . I could talk about this program for hours and it’s just been amazing to meet with and work with other people who stutter . Feel free to message me on here and I’m happy to talk about it or get on the phone more . Anything I can do to help other people who stutter I will . Fluent speakers will never understand what it’s like to life with this , and the goal of the McGuire program is articulate eloquence , not fluency . It has truly changed my life , and yes , the one time fee isn’t cheap , but it’s so worth it . Once you’re in it’s a lifetime membership and you can go to as many courses as you want . The support is amazing , and I’m so glad I finally decided to do it . Anyways , as I said , feel free to message me . I’d love to connect with more people who stutter !
