What helps me is thinking an upcoming presentation as a “performance”. This tricks my brain and I find my speech to be free of blocks and fluent. Back to the inflammation, I’ve (F36) been stuttering since I was 6. But as I’ve gotten older, my fluency has improved with sporadic periods of severe disfluency. I was diagnosed with PCOS about two years ago and as a result, I went on an anti-inflammatory diet. Since then, I’ve noticed my speech has significantly improved. My doctor identified areas of inflammation in my body but now I’m curious if I had inflammation in the brain during those disfluency periods. Keep in mind PCOS typically arises in females during their teenage years so I may be a special case in that my stuttering preceded my teenage years.
