👏👏👏Beautifully said. I study psychology and this is spot on. I have to say that I think of the perception of threat will be gone then the stuttering will be gone too. I’m actually mixed about this though. Because my best friends will never laugh so there’s no perception of threat. But underlying there is. How do I know they won’t crack if I stutter more than usual? How do you know their patience doesn’t have a limit? These irrational thoughts originate and get reinforced because of trauma. I seriously think stuttering is 90% cognitive because of the fact you don’t stutter when you’re alone. Another proof of this is how your fluency increases in loud areas. Try seeing the difference in stuttering when you’re Driving on the highway with a friend (they’re driving) and when you park and the engine is off. The background sound goes to zero and all you can is your speech/stutter. I stutter way more when the sound is off. Another thing is when I have a block and the person looks away, I instantly get the word out. I’ve never seen a stronger correlation than that.
