Things are nouns. Verbs describe. So 'like' is a verb, and 'ketchup' is a noun. Thinking back to when when my speech was really bad, I might sometimes find nouns difficult, so might hold up the ketchup and say, "Do you want some?" Other times I found the least important, extraneous words to be most difficult to say, so I could say, "Want ketchup?" but would struggle with, "Do you want some ketchup?" No consistency with my stammer. Some languages are less wordy than English which can be good, but English is pretty flexible which is also good.
