life progression isn't linear, so don't be scared if you fuck up, or something doesn't go the right way, or other people get a "head start". life has a funny way of revealing itself over time and a funnier way of working itself out. the things you're certain will happen won't, and the things that do happen will surprise you out of nowhere. just enjoy the ride, navigate where you can, and trust that it is all leading somewhere. take the improv rule of "yes, and", and apply it to life.
