I find that just making *a* sound helps a lot with getting past the block so instead of trying to say mount, just try to get *some* sound out and then try to turn that sound into mount through repetition. Also I completely agree it's an avoidance mechanism. I would try addressing the psychological side through exposure. Stutter and just try to embarrass yourself in situations over and over again. Obviously very hard to do though.
