I started stuttering when I was 5-6 years old. My parents tried different things but it didn’t help. Then we met a speech therapist when I was 16 and he suggested the above method to me. I was in high school then so it took a lot of courage and I had to go through a certain amount of humiliation at times but I stuck to it because I could see it was helping me. The idea is that when you slow down your speech and elongate the vowels, it helps relax the muscles in your throat. It also helps with the anxiety. I reduced down my speed of speaking for a couple of months and then slowly I turned it back to normal. I’m 35 now. I still stutter sometimes but I’m miles better than when I was 16.
