I’m 29 and speech therapy has never worked for me (because I assume some cases of stuttering, like mine, are more grounded in neurological/physiological abnormalities than others). If speech therapy doesn’t work for you either, text-to-speech apps and devices are definitely an option if you want to “speak”. There’s a comedian who’s mute due to cerebral palsy — Lee Ridley — who uses a Lightwriter device to speak. If you can type fast (or learn to), it could almost approximate “natural” speech. Right now I have the Proloquo2Go app, but I’m thinking of upgrading to a Lightwriter in the future if the government can partially subsidize it (it’s expensive). I find these text-to-speech apps are indispensable, esp in the workplace.
