I like people ordering my food or introducing me. IMO it just saves everyone time, saves me effort, and particularly with introductions avoids my first impression being a chronic stutterer (my stutter isn't that bad, but my name is). Although I definitely see where you're coming from, I don't feel the same way and most importantly it sounds like your gf doesn't either.
