Is there a way to stutter/move past a block in a less creepy way?

Is there a way to stutter/move past a block in a less creepy way? I generally try to move past or manage stutters in a way some people may find creepy or off-putting - i usually do the inhale/exhale method and speak on the exhale, but a lot of the time i end up with my face contorted and am unable to speak or say anything for several seconds. To the average person, it just looks like i'm breathing heavily. Is there a way to look and sound less creepy? I've gotten comments in the past from a female co-worker who commented on me "panting" while on a call with her and it was probably the worst critique of my stuttering i'd ever heard.
