I am a fellow stutterer and a Speech Pathologist Assistant as well. I understand your frustration and concerns as a parent, you are not alone. Services can be very costly and I applaud you for using social media as a tool. If you would like to do some personal research for resources I would recommend SLP Stephen. He is a Speech Language Pathologist who is also a person who stutters and makes his own resources for parents and kids. I highly recommend. Maintaining your son’s self-confidence is very important. Treating your son normally and being patient through his disfluencies will allow him to maintain his positive feelings (not being bothered) towards them. One tip is: Maintaining eye contact and just patiently waiting for him to finish can be more important than some may think. My mom used to look away when I used to stutter during mid conversation because she thought she was intimidating me and that would help me. It wasn’t until I told her to maintain eye contact that I realized how insecure it actually made me feel that she would look away. She used to also make a little facial gesture when I would begin to stutter which was non intentional and just a second of a reaction but I would notice it. You wanted to and found a way to get informed on stuttering, resources, opinions, etc. for your son. You’re doing a great job because you’re a great parent, don’t worry.
