So was she a private SLP? Did you get speech therapy services in school? If she had an license through ASHA (the American speech and hearing association), she was probably 'legitimate'. However, many SLPs will refer to another clinician if they do not feel competent treating a certain area (like stuttering, swallowing, etc.)
