Is he in public school? If so, then you may be able to get him tested and into speech therapy if your school district has the resources available. My mother was in the same position as you were (single, struggling parent) so she went through channels provided by our school system since they have to provide testing, etc. if there is a need for it initiated by the parent or teacher. I would suggest either talking to your child's teacher or talking to the school counselor if possible. Some caution goes with that advice though in the fact that he could be improperly diagnosed as not a "true" stutterer like I was at a young age and therefore locked out of helpful interventions early in life (which at 27 I still have the same stutter I had as a child). But please do not let my past experience in seeking help through the public school system discourage you two in any way. In the meantime, I've personally found that working on my breathing has helped a ton with my stutter and take to reading aloud more than I used to in order to practice breathing properly. Maybe that is an idea you two could pursue together? There's also Self-Therapy for the Stutterer that was published by the Stuttering Foundation which is available as a PDF file [here](https://www.stutteringhelp.org/sites/default/files/Migrate/book0012_11th_ed.pdf) and you can also pick up a new/used copy on Amazon or AbeBooks on the cheap if it's within your budget. Best of luck to you and your son!
