Viewing stuttering as a set of bad habits - thoughts? I just had a thought that stuttering is possibly just habits? It’s a habit that before we speak, we analyse for words we may stutter on. It’s a habit that if we feel/see in our minds that we may stutter on something, we either substitute or don’t say it. It’s a habit that we block on a certain words. It’s a habit to react to out stutter with self hate and throw hurtful comments at ourselves. A habit to not breathe properly before/while talking. In a way, it’s become muscle memory. But I do feel like stuttering is also cognitive and linked to confidence. We can change bad habits. So if can somehow break these bad habits and make new ones, maybe we can lessen our stuttering? Thoughts?
