One of my good friends has terrible anxiety and always told me public speaking was her worst fear. I always brushed it off in my head (because how could she, a fluent person, be more scared of public speaking than me, a stutterer?). But one day we were in a class together and I actually had to watch her give a presentation. She completely blanked out, could not think of a single word to get out, and burst into tears afterwards. I realized in that moment that we grew up with different burdens, but share the same fear, and I'm not the only one who has the right to be scared of public speaking. You never know what someone has been struggling with. All we can do is try to be supportive of each other.
