Well acting "as if" makes me fluent or at least more fluent even when I'm sober. Acting as if I was relaxed instead of nervous, confident instead of insecure. Just bringing out that part of me that normally wouldn't come out under circumstances like that. It doesn't always work out and it's not easy, it makes you feel cognitive dissonance to some degree because you need to fight against the wish to act the way situation really makes you feel. For me alcohol minimizes the influence of social circumstances that affect my speech so I'm not so susceptible to tension or insecurity anymore and it's easier to bring out that "other" part of me that's always there, drunk or sober. What's your idea?
