I've worked in communications for the last 5 years (which always gives me a slight internal chuckle) but I work in the same department as digital marketeers. If you can focus and become an expert on a particular field (eg pardot, or SEO) then you can definitely thrive. There is quite a bit of human interaction, and quite a few meetings, at least in my experience.
