IANAD, but it sounds like there was indeed some kind of injury. I'd recommend getting it checked out again, just to make sure that there's nothing that can be done (I doubt that there is, tbh, but you never know) -- but I'm in a country that has free health care, so that's easy for me to say. Your story reminds me of a blog I read a year or two ago, by a woman who fell and hit her head while she was taking a shower, and immediately developed a severe stutter. I'll add the link later if I can find it. I really feel for you, OP. It probably doesn't help you much now, but I'd say that it definitely gets a lot easier as you get older. ETA: Found it.
